Minnehaha Music strives to create connections between artists, audiences, and our community. We do this the old-fashioned way, mostly: through conversation and relationship-building.
Minnehaha Music participated in El Sistema MN's Fourth Annual Instrument Ceremony on December 1, 2015 at North Community High School in Minneapolis. The evening included heart-warming performances by young El Sistema violin students, choir students, and the Minnehaha Music Repertory Orchestra. El Sistema MN brings the love of music and learning to young students all over the metro area, this evening featuring students of Bright Water Montessori. Minnehaha Music is proud to collaborate with Kelly Carter and El Sistema MN.
El Sistema Minnesota is a social change/youth development program that uses ensemble music-making to provide every child with a noble identity and to experience being an asset within his or her community. Through ensemble participation, ESMN's focus is to develop leadership skills by nurturing consistent themes of mutual respect, cooperation, and responsibility. Students feel ownership of and pride in the music, as well as joy and friendship from the process. El Sistema Minnesota, beginning at Nellie Stone Johnson Community School, is now in its fourth operating year serving hundreds of students in Minneapolis and St. Paul schools.
Justin Berkowitz performs for Edina High School choir students. A lively discussion about Justin's career in opera followed the performance.
“...the conductor Craig Randal Johnson brought out the darkness in the music, kept the score and the singers well balanced, and made the climaxes pay off.”
